چکیده

We present a comprehensive multi-wavelength study of the star-forming region NGC 1893 to explore the effects of massive stars on low-mass star formation. Using near-infrared colours, slitless spectroscopy and narrow-band Hα photometry in the cluster region we have identified candidate young stellar objects (YSOs) distributed in a pattern from the cluster to one of the nearby nebulae Sim 129. The V, (V − I) colour-magnitude diagram of the YSOs indicates that majority of these objects have ages between 1 to 5 Myr. The spread in the ages of the YSOs may indicate a noncoeval star formation in the cluster. The slope of the KLF for the cluster is estimated to be 0.34± 0.07, which agrees well with the average value (∼ 0.4) reported for young clusters. For the entire observed mass range 0.6 < M/M⊙ 6 17.7 the value of the slope of the initial mass function, ‘Γ’, comes out to be −1.27± 0.08, which is in agreement with the Salpeter value of -1.35 in the solar neighborhood. However, the value of ‘Γ’ for PMS phase stars (mass range 0.6 < M/M⊙ 6 2.0) is found to be −0.88± 0.09 which is shallower than the value (−1.71 ± 0.20) obtained for MS stars having mass range 2.5 < M/M⊙ 6 17.7 indicating a break in the slope of the mass function at ∼ 2M⊙. Estimated ‘Γ’ values indicate an effect of mass segregation for main-sequence stars, in the sense that massive stars are preferentially located towards the cluster center. The estimated dynamical evolution time is found to be greater than the age of the cluster, therefore the observed mass segregation in the cluster may be the imprint of the star formation process. There is evidence for triggered star formation in the region, which seems to govern initial morphology of the cluster.

Circumstellar disks in the outer Galaxy: the star-forming region NGC1893

Context. It is still debated whether star formation process depends on environment. In particular it is yet unclear whether star formation in the outer Galaxy, where the environmental conditions are, theoretically, less conducive, occurs in the same way as in the inner Galaxy. Aims. We investigate the population of NGC 1893, a young cluster (∼3−4 Myr) in the outer part of the Galaxy (RG ≥ 11 kp...

Pre - main - sequence stars in the young open cluster NGC 1893 , ⋆ II . Evidence for triggered massive star formation

Received ABSTRACT Context. The open cluster NGC 1893, illuminating the H  region IC 410, contains a moderately large population of O-type stars and is one of the youngest clusters observable in the optical range. It is suspected to harbour a large population of pre-main-sequence (PMS) stars. Aims. We have probed the stellar population of NGC 1893 in an attempt to determine its size and extent...

X ‐ ray emission in the Outer Galaxy : the Star Forming Region NGC 1893

A key issue of the star formation process is its independence from the environmental conditions. In particular, it is not clear whether star formation in the outer Galaxy occurs in the same way as in the inner Galaxy. We present preliminary results of the analysis of a ∼ 440Ks ACISChandra observation of NGC1893, a young cluster (∼ 3−4Myrs), far away from the Galactic Center with the aim to stud...

Star formation in the outer Galaxy: coronal properties of NGC 1893⋆

Context. The outer Galaxy, where the environmental conditions are different from the solar neighborhood, is a laboratory in which it is possible to investigate the dependence of star formation process on the environmental parameters. Aims. We investigate the X-ray properties of NGC 1893, a young cluster (∼1–2 Myr) in the outer part of the Galaxy (galactic radius ≥11 kpc) where we expect differe...

On the determination of age, and mass functions of stars in young open star clusters from the analysis of their luminosity functions

Based on the CCD observations of remote young open clusters NGC 2383, NGC 2384, NGC 4103, NGC 4755, NGC 7510 and Hogg 15, we construct their observed luminosity functions (LFs). The observed LFs are corrected for field star contamination determined with the help of galactic star count model. In the case of Hogg 15 and NGC 2383 we also considered the additional contamination from neighboring clu...
